- Guild: An association of persons of the same trade or pursuits, formed to protect mutual interests and maintain standards.
- Gryphon: Also spelled griffin, griffon. A creature leonine in the hindquarters and raptorine in the fore. Around the Gryphonguild, this definition may be expanded to also mean other half-half chimera, though in general, Gryphons are considered to be half avian and half feline.
- Heraldry: Symbolism, such as in a coat of arms.
- Hippogriff: The result of a mating between gryphon and equine (typically a mare)... horse in hind, raptor in fore.
- Leonine: Of or relating to lions.
- Phoenix: A bird that rises from its own ashes.
- Raptorine: Of or relating to raptors.
- Raptor: No, not "velociraptor"; raptor, in this case, refers to birds of prey, like the hawk and the eagle. Raptor means "to sieze" or "grab" in Latin.
